This is a procedure note for Effective Seborrheic Keratosis Laser Removal Requires Accurate Diagnosis at Beomgye(Opening Soon) KKEUT Korean Clinic.

Age Spot Laser: The Importance of Precise Diagnosis

Seborrheic keratosis, commonly known as age spots, results from the increased growth of epidermal cells as individuals age,

presenting as benign skin growths with diverse appearances, including variations in color, thickness, and surface texture.

However, age spots can often appear similar to other pigmented skin concerns,

making them challenging to differentiate solely by visual assessment.

Given these considerations, Kkeut Clinic

employs specialized skin diagnostic equipment to precisely distinguish various lesions.

After first assessing the lesion's thickness, boundaries, color, and epidermal characteristics, we then carefully select the most suitable laser treatment approach.

Skin Lesions Often Mistaken for Age Spots

Skin conditions that are frequently mistaken for age spots include:

- Melasma

- Post-inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)

- Dark Moles (Nevi)

- Flat Warts

- Syringomas / Milia

While these conditions may look alike superficially,

the distinct laser treatment depths and methods are needed for each.

Consider these examples:

- Applying an overly intense laser to melasma might lead to pigment darkening,

- If a mole is misidentified as an age spot, it might not be removed to the appropriate depth,

- And incorrectly treating an age spot as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation could leave behind excess epidermal growth, potentially causing a recurrence of rough skin texture.

This means that when lesions requiring different treatment approaches are not accurately identified,

treatment efficacy could be reduced, or the likelihood of adverse effects may rise.

Kkeut Clinic's Approach: Utilizing a Skin Diagnostic Device

At Kkeut Clinic, before proceeding with the removal of epidermal lesions, such as age spots, or any pigment laser treatment,

we thoroughly examine the following aspects using a specialized skin diagnostic device:

- The depth and thickness of the skin lesion

- The position of the pigment within skin layers

- The characteristics of its borders

- Its differentiation from the surrounding skin tissue

This careful diagnostic process allows us to

initially determine with clarity whether the condition is an age spot, another form of pigmentation, or a different type of lesion altogether.

Subsequently, taking into account the specific characteristics of each lesion,

we then select the most appropriate laser type—such as Toning laser, CO₂ laser, or Er-YAG laser—along with the optimal output intensity and method,

tailoring the depth of the procedure accordingly.

This procedure holds considerable importance for several reasons.

Accurate lesion assessment can minimize unnecessary irritation,

and guide toward a suitable treatment approach.
